Existing Site

A much-loved historic paddling pool, which had fallen into disrepair and lacked accessible entry, has now been thoughtfully reimagined as a highly active and inclusive splash pad.

Design

Our bespoke design for the St Annes splash pad was thoughtfully developed to complement the site's unique shape, layout, and historic character. Taking inspiration from the vibrant surrounding gardens, we designed a visually striking wet pour safety surface that enhances both aesthetics and interactive play.

The design features 232m² of colourful rubber crumb surfacing, including bold floral patterns and a flowing stream motif. This stream graphic was strategically aligned with the direction of actual water flow, creating a multi-sensory experience as children feel water moving over the shapes beneath their feet.

Our design not only celebrates the heritage and landscape of the area but also invites imaginative, nature-inspired play. The entire layout was created to encourage inclusive, safe, and engaging water play for children of all ages.

Construction Phase

The Splash delivered the full scope of the project—designing, installing, and commissioning the splash pad, including the supply and fitting of equipment from our UK-manufactured EcoSplash range.

To maintain the site's historic charm, we retained the original paddling pool walls while adding new level-access entry points to ensure full accessibility for wheelchairs and pushchairs. This thoughtful integration strikes a perfect balance between heritage preservation and modern functionality.

For long-term performance and water safety, we installed a PWTAG-compliant filtration and dosing system. Due to the site’s coastal location, we addressed the risk of windblown sand by incorporating a centrifugal pre-filter, preventing clogging of the main sand filter and ensuring low-maintenance, efficient operation.

The first season was a huge success, delivering enhanced accessibility, sustainable water usage, and a renewed, community-focused space that brings joy to families and visitors alike.

Post-Completion & Safety Inspection

Upon completion, we conducted a thorough independent play inspection to identify and address any potential safety risks and ensure the area conforms to EN 1176/77 Playground standards.
