A popular paddling pool in Warminster was nearing the end of its life and required a costly revamp to bring it back into working order. The local Council approached The Splash to provide an initial idea to renovate the existing space into a brand-new, exciting Splash Park, creating a fun destination for all ages. The Council received approval for the new Splash Park and released the project through a competitive tendering process, where The Splash was the successful bidder.
As part of our proposal, we offered a new custom design with maximum play value while tailoring it to suit the local heritage. Our ‘Out of this World’ Splash theme was inspired by historic local UFO sightings, allowing us to create a brand-new experience that will be long remembered by its users.
A paddle zone was included within the design to pay tribute to the old paddling pool, alongside a mixture of space-themed features and in-ground jets. Our themed wet pour safety surfacing completes the design, featuring moons, stars, craters, and planets for an authentic space experience.
The tender documents initially called for the installation of a single-use system, however, through the detailed design phase, a full recirculation system was chosen as the preferred option, providing both sustainability and cost benefits over the operational life of the Splash Park.
Site access was challenging with only two feasible options. Access to the Northwest of the site was very steep, and the Northeast access was across a narrow weight-limiting bridge. During the tender process, our Project Manager assessed the site access and developed a preferred method to suit the challenging situation, such as pumping the concrete from the far side of the bridge to minimize machinery trips across it. The GRP plant room was also designed to be fabricated in sections for assembly on-site, making it more manageable given the tighter access.
The dry play park, located next to the splash park, was required to stay open throughout the construction. Since both play areas shared the same entrance, our Project Manager worked with the client to develop a suitable solution, ensuring the dry play park remained open while maintaining clear segregation from the construction site.
Upon completion, we conducted a thorough independent play inspection to identify and address any potential safety risks and ensure the area conforms to EN 1176/77 Playground standards.
