The project site was initially a green field area located next to a newly built pavilion.
We crafted a bespoke splash zone design that seamlessly integrates with the pavilion and surrounding green spaces. The design emphasizes nature-inspired features and vibrant colours, using shades of green and blue to complement the environment. The splash zone includes a variety of dynamic, interactive water features, such as arching streams, multi-stream fountains, bubbling jets, and shimmering water domes. These features are designed to engage users of all ages, including toddler-friendly options like Freddy Frog, a crawl-through feature with a Perspex dome. All equipment is UK-manufactured and crafted from durable 316-grade stainless steel with vibrant powder coatings. To optimize water usage, the features are individually controlled via solenoids for precise adjustments. The surface is finished with GomyFloor Tiles, designed specifically for aquatic environments, which create a visually appealing and functional play area. Sensory and educational panels further enhance the experience, with butterfly, weather, and frog puzzle themes. These panels, made from UV-resistant HDPE materials, add an interactive and educational element for children. The result is a splash pad that encourages exploration, engagement, and fun, while harmonizing with the natural setting and the pavilion.
The construction began with addressing the need for additional excavation to create a stable foundation. A 400mm layer of Type 1 MOT was laid, followed by a 150mm layer of C35 reinforced concrete for durability. The final surface was topped with a 10mm Gomy Floor Surface for a safe finish. The perimeter pathway was carefully integrated with the surrounding pathways, using Type 1 MOT, macadam base, and resin-bound gravel. A 2-meter excavation was completed for the suction tank, with a concrete surround for stability. The splash pad area was enclosed by a 1.2m high bowtop fence for safety, while the GRP-coated plantroom, measuring 7m by 4m, was built on a new concrete slab base.
Upon completion, we conducted a thorough independent play inspection to identify and address any potential safety risks and ensure the area conforms to EN 1176/77 Playground standards.
