Existing Site

The existing site featured a series of paddling pools, but their location was not ideal. The brief required the removal of old paddling pools and locating the splash pad to a green field area within the playground for better suitability.

Design

The Bude Park Splash Pad was designed to bring vibrant colour and excitement back to the site while seamlessly blending with the surrounding park. The area featured terracotta-dyed concrete, adding warmth and character to the space. All water play elements were manufactured in the UK, reducing the carbon footprint and ensuring full customization of features, including adaptable nozzles for adjustable spray patterns.

Constructed with durable 316-grade stainless steel and powder-coated for protection, the splash pad's above-ground features were built to last while enhancing the visual appeal. Each feature was controlled by individual solenoids, allowing precise water usage management, while in-ground features included interchangeable insert nozzles for easy adjustments.

The design incorporated a variety of engaging water features, such as the arching streams of the Water Beasty, the fountain-like Sea Squirt, and the dynamic Peacock jet. The Hula Spray created an interactive water cage, and the Tap Tap Activators triggered pre-set sequences to optimize water flow and maximize play value.

The installation focused on sustainability, accessibility, and interactive play, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for users of all ages and abilities. Through careful planning and innovative design, the Bude Park Splash Pad became a vibrant, environmentally conscious, and engaging space for the local community.

Construction Phase

The construction of the Bude Park Splash Pad followed a structured and efficient process to ensure timely completion, safety, and quality control.

  • Site Preparation & Demolition: The project began with clearing and levelling the area, creating a new entrance, and removing the old paddling pools and clearing the plant room while making the site safe.

  • Excavation & Infrastructure Installation: The splash pad area was excavated, with crushed concrete used as a sub-base. Key infrastructure, including pipework, drains, and electrical systems, was then installed.

  • Water Features & Surface Installation: Ground sprays and interactive water features were positioned, followed by the laying of dyed concrete to create a visually appealing and durable surface.

  • Commissioning & Handover: The final stage involved testing and quality checks, as well as staff training on splash pad operation, maintenance, and seasonal management.

Project Management & Safety:

  • A dedicated site compound was established for materials, staff welfare, and secure storage.

  • Scheduled deliveries were planned with safety protocols, including banksmen to guide vehicles.

  • A high-level risk assessment was conducted, ensuring public safety, controlled access, PPE compliance, and environmental protection.

  • The project team utilized a client portal for real-time updates, images, and communication, ensuring transparency and efficient issue resolution.

By following this methodical approach, the Bude Park Splash Pad was successfully delivered as a high-quality, sustainable, and engaging water play area for the local community.

Post-Completion & Safety Inspection

Upon completion, we conducted a thorough independent play inspection to identify and address any potential safety risks and ensure the area conforms to EN 1176/77 Playground standards.
